Funding for councils to reduce flooding
The Floodplain Grants Scheme will fund 28 projects to help councils across the state make informed decisions on the best way to invest in flood mitigation and better manage the risk posed by floods.
Projects receiving funding include flood studies, floodplain risk management plans and flood mitigation works investigation and design.
In 2016, $4.59 million in funding was awarded to local councils and other authorities to undertake 43 priority projects to assess and reduce flooding.
Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant stressed the importance of the role councils play in understanding and managing the flood risk in their local government areas.
“By enabling councils to better understand and manage flood risks we can help minimise some of the devastation caused by flooding,” Mr Grant said.
