The public voting to name Sydney's new fleet of ferries is open. More than 15,000 suggestions were submitted, which have been narrowed down to a final list of names.
The first of the new ferry fleet will be on the harbour this summer.
NSW Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said this is a chance for everyone to be a part of our maritime history.
“We’ve had some truly great ideas put forward including names like Jørn Utzon, Catherine Hamlin and Victor Chang,” Mr Constance said.
“Our four-person panel has had the unenviable task of whittling it down to the final list for public voting.”
There are 12 possible names to choose from which are grouped within three categories: arts and culture; connections to Sydney Harbour; and science, environment and innovation.
The voting system works in this manner:
- You vote on your favourite names in one naming category only.
- You can vote for just one name if you prefer, or up to a maximum of six.
- The six most popular names in one category will become the new names for the ferry fleet.
Voters are encouraged to register their details online for their chance to win one of 50 family passes to ride on one of the new ferries.
