Loose-fill asbestos insulation assistance
Minister for Finance, Services and Property Dominic Perrottet said the Government has accepted all 13 recommendations put forth by the Loose Fill Asbestos Insulation Taskforce in a final report submitted to the NSW Government.
“Ensuring the health and safety of NSW residents is our top priority. This package will provide safety, certainty and support for our citizens and an enduring solution to the problem of loose-fill asbestos insulation,” Mr Perrottet said.
Under the voluntary program the Government can purchase both the eligible premises and land or just premises only.
A new Loose-Fill Asbestos Implementation Taskforce (LFAI) has been established to oversee and implement the program.
The taskforce will establish a public register of affected properties, introduce mandatory hazard labelling and identify affected properties on planning certificates.
The program is part of the Make Safe Assistance package and a free sample testing program is currently available across 26 local government areas until 1 August 2016.
