Most popular baby names 2016
New top 20 entrants for boys are old-school classics Leo, Henry and Max, while Harper cracked the top 20 girls’ names for the first time in 2016.
The NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) has released the Top 100 baby names list for 2016.
There are some interesting changes in baby name trends:
- Olivia and Oliver have taken out the number one spots for the second time in three years.
- Classic names are making a comeback, such as Leo, Henry and Max for boys. Evelyn was the 18th most popular baby name.
- Scarlett and Matilda for girls, and Charlie and Cooper for boys, have dropped out of the Top 20 baby names in the state.
- Harper ranked 19th as the most popular name for newborn girls, although it was regarded as a boy’s name in the 1800s.
