New Energy Security Taskforce for NSW
The newly-formed Energy Security Taskforce will:
- assess the risks to, and resilience of, the NSW electricity system from extreme weather events
- evaluate how well the state manages electricity system security events, such as prevention, preparedness, response and recovery
- recommend actions to address any vulnerabilities and opportunities for improvements to current practices.
Energy and Utilities Minister Harwin has appointed Professor Mary O’Kane, NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer, to the role of Chair of the taskforce.
"Recent events across Australia have highlighted it is critical that households and industry have a resilient electricity system," Professor O'Kane said.
The taskforce will engage with all relevant stakeholders and the broader community in developing its final report. A draft report will be completed in the first half of 2017.
This work will complement the Independent Review into the Future Security of the National Electricity Market, led by Australia’s Chief Scientist Alan Finkel.
