NSW patients receiving world-class hospital care
A new report shows significant improvement in elective surgery performance and emergency department wait times at NSW public hospitals.
NSW is on track to achieve the Premier’s Priority to improve service levels in hospitals and the state priority of cutting wait times for planned surgeries, with the release of the latest Bureau of Health Information (BHI) Hospital Quarterly report.
The report shows that in the October-December 2016 quarter:
- 92 per cent of patients were transferred from ambulances to hospital staff within 30 minutes, above the state target of 90 per cent
- 74.3 per cent of patients spent four hours or less in the emergency department
- 97.6 per cent of elective surgery was performed on time.
NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard thanked public hospital staff for their work and congratulated them on their performance.
“More people are coming to emergency than ever before and, even with that challenge, our medical and nursing staff consistently delivers first-class care,” Mr Hazzard said.
