The program helps to promote the extensive support available for people affected by mental illness. It is jointly run by the NSW and Queensland Governments, the National Rugby League (NRL), and a number of peak mental health organisations.
The promotional campaign has been running successfully on various social media channels since the start of the 2014 Origin series. To date, the ‘What’s Your State of Mind’ promo video has 189,000 views on YouTube and 2.5 million views on Facebook.
Acting Health Minister Jai Rowell said conversations about mental health don’t necessarily have to be awkward and confirmed the NSW Government’s support of the campaign.
“Too often those facing mental health issues don’t feel that they can reach out for help, so it’s incredibly encouraging to see that NRL champions like Paul Gallen and Nate Myles are willing to tackle these issues head on.” Mr Rowell said.
“It’s the oft quoted mantra that State of Origin is all about ‘State versus State – mate versus mate’, but this is about the importance of mates helping mates in tough times, to ensure that they can pull through and get the help they need.”
