Regions to get NDIS-readiness funding

Regional disability service providers will receive special funding to help their businesses get ready for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

More than 130 disability service providers in remote and regional NSW have been granted up to $35,000 to help cover the costs of getting ready for the NDIS, such as updating business plans or buying new software.

The NSW Government’s $4 million Transition Assistance Program (TAP) is for providers with less than $3 million in annual turnover.

NSW Minister for Disability Services John Ajaka said the TAP will allow providers to boost their NDIS readiness activities and better plan for the future. It will also support the growth of the disability services sector across the state.

Since 1 July 2016, the NDIS has been available to people living in the Hunter, New England, Southern NSW, Central Coast, Northern Sydney, South-Western Sydney, Western Sydney and Nepean-Blue Mountains.

From 1 July 2017, the NDIS will be in place across the rest of NSW. People living in Northern NSW, Mid-North Coast, Sydney, South-Eastern Sydney, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Murrumbidgee, Western NSW and Far-West NSW will then be able to access the NDIS.

“A reform as significant and life-changing as the NDIS only comes along once-in-a-generation,” Mr Ajaka said. “The NDIS will transform the lives of people with disability by giving them real choice and control."
