Revitalising Sydney's Bays Precinct
Currently considered an urban wasteland, The Bays Precinct is just two kilometres west of the Sydney CBD and provides an ideal waterfront location for new housing and areas for recreation, retail, tourism, commercial and maritime use.
The NSW Government will ensure that underutilised and degraded waterfront areas in and around Blackwattle Bay, the Sydney Fish Market, Rozelle Bay, Rozelle Rail Yards, and the heritage-listed White Bay Power Station are regenerated to provide a vibrant new harbour front.
Planning Minister Pru Goward said the renewal program represented a game changer for Sydney, with the potential to create the next big destination after the iconic Sydney Opera House.
From 19-20 November 2014 the government will hold an international summit for leading urban renewal experts to discuss the best way to renew the precinct.
The government will also ask the public and other stakeholders to provide input into the renewal plans.
The summit will coincide with the G20 Summit in Brisbane.
The government’s urban renewal authority, UrbanGrowth NSW, is leading the renewal program.
