“Roads and Maritime Services has carried out extensive consultation with the community on the introduction of a weekend clearway on one of Sydney’s busiest road corridors as part of the NSW Government’s congestion busting strategy,” Roads Minister Duncan Gay said.
“Following consultation with Victoria Road businesses and residents, the weekend clearway will be introduced under the Sydney Clearways Strategy from 8am to 8pm.
“Clearways help reduce congestion to allow for more reliable and efficient travel with improved traffic flow, reliable travel times for buses and freight vehicles and a safer road network.
“A $21 million fund has been created to help identify alternative parking across all proposed clearways for the next four years.
“In response to community feedback, a free car park with a two hour limit, seven days between 8am and 8pm has been provided at 85 Victoria Road at Rozelle with unrestricted parking outside these hours. Access to the public parking area is via Ellen Street.
“The car park has been funded from a $1.27 million commitment to Leichhardt Council as a contribution toward alternative parking solutions in this area.
Motorists are reminded vehicles left on a clearway risk being towed and fined.
To report a vehicle parked in a clearway call the Transport Management Centre on 131 700.
The Government also has proposed implementing weekend clearways for King Georges Road, Lane Cove Road, Mona Vale Road and the Princes Highway.
Community members can nominate a road they think should be considered for a new or extended clearway.
