Enthusiastic response to Resilient Lands Program
More than 250 Landholder Expressions of Interest have already been lodged in the Northern Rivers region for the NSW Government’s Resilient Lands Program.
The Resilient Lands Program was launched three months ago to identify land which could be accessed for future residential development in the Ballina, Byron Bay, Clarence Valley, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley and Tweed local government areas.
Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation (NRRC) Chief Executive David Witherdin welcomed the enthusiastic response to the program.
“The Resilient Lands Program is key to laying a strong foundation for building back better in the Northern Rivers,” Mr Witherdin said.
“By having a clear understanding of what land is available for development, the NRRC is able to forge ahead with programs to deliver safe and affordable housing for locals and increase community resilience.
“I encourage landholders who believe they have a suitable landholding to respond to the Expression of Interest before it closes in early February next year.”
Mr Witherdin said all applications will be assessed by an expert panel to ensure the program can support those most in need and deliver a sustainable supply of housing for the Northern Rivers community.
“The robust and objective assessment will focus on future natural hazard risk, including flood and bushfire, and balance the social, cultural, economic and environmental factors which can arise from development.
“This aspect of our program is all about delivering the right houses, in the right place, at the right time and at the right price point for the community,” Mr Witherdin said.
Landholder Expressions of Interest close on Wednesday, 1 February 2023.
The first shortlist of landholdings will be identified by March 2023. Shortlisted landholdings will then undergo detailed assessment to confirm what Government support is needed to accelerate development.
