Bringing your digital identity to life
Proving your identity can be time consuming, but it should only take seconds in today’s digital era. We give an update on how we’re working hard to deliver a convenient, secure, and private digital identity solution for people across NSW.
The NSW Government has allocated $2.1 billion to digital transformation projects across the state through the Digital Restart Fund. By centralising the coordination and prioritisation of digital projects, we can ensure those with the greatest impact to customers are being funded at the right time.
Supported by an initial $16 million from the Digital Restart Fund, NSW Digital ID is one of the many great projects being brought to life. NSW Digital ID will offer an easier way to securely prove your identity online and in-person with government organisations and commercial businesses. Learn more about nsw.gov.au/nswdigitalid.
To make NSW Digital ID truly valuable for people, we’re building an ecosystem around it that we will continue to add to over time. Digital versions of your important credentials, such as driver licence, birth certificate or working with children check, will be encrypted, and sit within a digital wallet on your mobile device. This will make it easier to access the things you need when you need them.
Taking time to get it right
Before we make NSW Digital ID publicly available, we’re rolling out a series of pilots to give us time to test how the digital ecosystem works, take participant feedback on board and make any enhancements.
In addition to piloting the NSW Digital ID, we’ve run successful pilots for:
- Working with Children Check renewal – the use of photo verification to digitally verify your identity while renewing a Working With Children Check.
- Proof of Age – the use of NSW Digital ID in a commercial environment that will enable people to prove they are over 18 without disclosing their date of birth or even their age when purchasing age-restricted products such as alcohol.
NSW Digital ID will be made available once we’re confident we have a secure and private digital identity solution for all our customers across NSW.
