New IRC Chief Commissioner Appointed

21 February 2020

Nichola Constant has been appointed as the first female Chief Commissioner of the NSW Industrial Relations Commission (IRC).

Following the expression of interest process undertaken in 2019, the NSW Governor permanently appointed Ms Constant, currently a Commissioner at IRC, as the head of the Commission in NSW.

“I am delighted with the appointment of Ms Constant as the new Chief Commissioner of the IRC. She brings excellent credentials and experience to this role,” Minister for the Public Service and Employee Relations Don Harwin said.

Commissioner Constant replaces Chief Commissioner Peter Kite SC, who retired in December 2019.

“I’d like to thank Chief Commissioner Kite for his term of service as head of IRC and for all the work he has done on the commission.”

Commissioner Constant has nearly 20 years experience in workplace relations in both the private and public sector as a director in the NSW Crown Solicitors Office prior to her appointment as a Commissioner of the IRC in 2018.

The IRC hears industrial disputes and settles employment conditions and remuneration for employees primarily in the NSW public sector and local government.

Commissioner Constant will commence her appointment as Chief Commissioner on 2 March 2020.
