Profile cards
Profile cards can depict a group of people with images and bios. Profile cards can be helpful for displaying groups of people such as boards, committees, ministers, or senior executives.
Before you start
You will need to source:
- Approved biographies that are 450 characters or less, including spaces.
- High quality, square-ratio images of the people to be displayed. See the image requirements.
- Links to each person's official social media accounts – if you want to include these. You must make sure you are linking to official social media accounts, and not personal ones.
When to use profile cards
Do
- Add profile cards when you have a group of people that need to be displayed with their image and biography.
- Check the image rights, just as you would when adding any other image. If you are unsure see selecting images and what images are allowed to be used on our website.
Don't
- Add profile cards if you only have a single person. If you only have a single person to display consider using a Feature or, on landing pages a Person blade or Person profile component.
- Use if you only want to display a group of images but no biographies of the people. Consider using a Gallery.
- Use as a contact for general agency information. Consider a Contact instead.
Profile image size and positioning
The profile image will be a square ratio and the subject should be centred, like a passport photo.
Positioning
- The person's face should be centred in the image, or slightly towards the top.
- The person's full face, head, neck and shoulders should be in the frame.
- There should be space between the top and sides of the head and the edge of the image – don't crop in too closely to the face.
- Make all the profile images of your group similar in terms of cropping, padding and styling. For example, if person A's face displays the size of a 20 cent coin, then person B's face should also be zoomed in or out to be that size in their photo.
Example of sizing and positioning:

Pixels
- Images must be cropped to a square shape (1:1 ratio).
- Images should be high resolution.
- To resize or crop your image you can use a free online image editor. Ensure the dimensions don't go below 1500 x 1500 pixels.
File size:
Save the image at a minimum 72dpi.
The maximum file size for upload to the CMS is 8MB.
The CMS will automatically compress and optimise images for different devices and use in different components.
It is recommended to get the file size of the image as small as possible, without compromising quality, before uploading to the CMS.
You can use the free, online optimisation tool (PNG and JPEG images, maximum 5MB upload) to reduce your image file size.
How to create profiles of people
- From the site menu, go to Content > People > Add Person.
- On the Add Person screen, in the Label field add the person’s name. The Label field won’t display publicly when used in a Profile Cards component. However you will use the Label name in later steps to search and add your person profile on to your page.
- The Summary field is optional. The Summary field is where you can add the biography of the person. This is limited to 450 characters or less, including spaces.
- Enter the person's name in the Full name field. This is the name that will be displayed on the website, for example John Smith. Any post-nominals the person has can also be included in this field with their name, for example, John Smith OAM.
- The Role field is optional. However, if you are using it for one person, you should use it for all the people you are listing. Some examples include Chairman, Board member or other relevant job title of the person.
- In the Portrait field upload the headshot of your person by clicking the Add media button.
- In the Add or select media pop up click the Choose files button and a pop up will prompt you to find your media file in your computer’s documents.
- Select your media file and click the Open button.
- After you have selected your media item, you will go back to the Add or select pop-up. Enter the image mandatory fields for Title, Alternative text, Agency, Editorial group and then click Save. See uploading images to the CMS for full details about how to upload images.
- In the Social accordion, you will be presented with optional fields for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. If the person you are adding wants to include their social media profile, add the URL to their profile on that platform to the relevant field. If the social fields are left empty, the social field won’t be visible at all on the website. Make sure you are adding the person's official social media account – many high profile people will have separate personal and professional social accounts.
- Do not enter any content in the Links accordion section. When the person is added to a Profile cards component it will not display any content. (This field will be visible when a person is added into different component types).
- Click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
