We sit down with Senior Business Analyst at ServiceNSW, Junaid Khan. Junaid runs us through the day-to-day work of a Business Analyst at ServiceNSW as well as current projects, key customers and more.
Can you tell us about what you do?
I am a Senior Business Analyst at ServiceNSW, working on innovative solutions and implementation of projects within our Digital Identity and Verifiable Credentials (DIVC) ecosystem. I’m focused on data analysis, requirement gathering and supporting security, privacy, and product teams in communicating the requirements and making sure they meet stakeholder needs.
What is the main project you are currently working on?
I’m focused on enabling Proof of Age transactions using the NSW Digital ID in a commercial environment. Currently there is no way for customers, businesses, and government in NSW to engage in a secure and consent-based exchange of identity online. A digital solution is required that enables NSW people, if they wish to opt-in, to utilise their digital identity and attributes conveniently, securely, and privately.
The CIE (Commercial Identity Exchange) Proof of Age use case will enable people to prove they are over a certain age without disclosing any of their personal information like their name, date of birth or even their age when carrying out online transactions where age verification is a legislative requirement. The proof of concept has been carried out successfully and we are now working towards a pilot phase to test how it works and make any necessary enhancements before it is made generally available.
Who is your key audience?
Apart from our internal stakeholders we have three key customers for this project, and they are people in NSW, NSW businesses who we refer to as Relying Parties (RPs), and Identity Exchange, who we sometimes refer to as a broker.
What are your headwinds?
This is something we have never done before, so it is completely new territory. As a government organisation, we are now working more with the private sector to bring this project to life, so the main challenge is streamlining our interactions and transactions.
What is your proudest work moment from last year?
From a Proof of Age pilot point of view, it would have to be finalising our proof of concept for the service to be successfully tested within our environment and to complete a trial commercial transaction.
This has meant we can now successfully verify the legal age of a person with a relying party, which is a great moment as it proves the service is doing what it is meant to. It has been an interesting process. Moving to pilot phase means we have crossed all the technical hurdles, and this is always a great moment.
