Who we are
We promote public economics to make government resource allocation more effective, efficient, and fair.
We lead the development and application of economic frameworks to support evidence-based decision-making.

What we do
Advise government on the economic merit of initiatives, with a focus on cost-benefit analysis, to make sure decisions are evidence-based and resources are put to their best use.
Create and maintain a Performance and Wellbeing Framework to improve accountability, advance outcomes and incorporate wellbeing considerations in policy advice.
Our work involves producing public resources on key issues like the First Nations business sector and economic participation, and accounting for carbon emissions in cost-benefit analysis.
Create and improve policies, frameworks, and tools that support evidence-based decision-making, including business cases, evaluation and cost-benefit analysis.
First Nations economic wellbeingDevelop and advise on the First Nations Investment Framework, lead Priority Reform 5 of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, focusing on First Nations employment, business and economic prosperity, and supporting Priority Reform 4 of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. The NSW Government Investment Framework
The Investment Framework sets requirements and suggests best practices for each stage of an initiative’s lifecycle, from planning to ex-post evaluation. It applies to all types of projects, programs, regulations, and policies. It includes main guidance documents, technical guidance, and extra materials for support.

Evidence Bank insights
The Evidence Bank is a NSW Treasury led whole-of-government initiative that encourages evidence-based decision-making and supports the collection and sharing of evidence-based information. This helps to improve quality, consistency, and collaboration in the public sector. Every year, a report is prepared to share the evidence bank's insights. You can read our recent reports:
