This standard sets out the minimum requirements for the storage of physical State records. It covers the storage of records which are in the control of the public office and have a physical format.
The standard applies to records created and maintained by contractors and service providers on behalf public offices in the course of outsourced government business.
The standard does not cover the storage and handling requirements for officially classified materials; storage of records on network servers, in data centres, or in the cloud; storage of records in active use; or the storage of the State Archives Collection.
This standard applies to public offices as defined in section 3 of the State Records Act 1998, except for those public offices to which Part 2 of the Act does not apply.
This standard is issued under section 13(1) of the State Records Act. This standard was approved on 11 December 2024 and issued to all public offices on 14 February 2025.
This standard replaces Standard Number 13 – Standard on the physical storage of State records.
