New Northern Beaches Hospital

Before 2018, people living on the Northern Beaches with serious medical conditions were often taken by ambulance to Royal North Shore Hospital. Now, they can receive healthcare closer to home.

The new Northern Beaches Hospital at Frenchs Forest delivers acute and complex care to the community and supports innovation and research.

Northern Beaches Hospital has:

  • 488 beds (60 per cent public and 40 per cent private) compared to 200 beds previously
  • 50 emergency bays compared to 30 bays previously
  • 14 operating theatres compared to 5 previously
  • 20 intensive care beds compared to 13 previously
  • 40 maternity beds compared to 31 previously

The Northern Beaches Hospital also offers:

  • critical and intensive care, maternity, paediatrics, renal, cancer, mental health and surgical services
  • digital imaging and diagnostic facilities
  • an on-site medical centre
  • 1400 car spaces and links to public transport.

Patients who are eligible for Medicare will be treated for free at the Northern Beaches Hospital. Patients who have private health insurance, and need to be admitted, can choose to stay as a private patient.

Mona Vale Hospital will be transformed

Mona Vale Hospital provides urgent, rehabilitation, community and palliative care services to complement the acute care delivered by the Northern Beaches Hospital.

The transformation of Mona Vale Hospital will ensure high-quality, integrated healthcare services can be delivered within contemporary, purpose-built facilities.

Services and facilities at Mona Vale hospital include:

  • rehabilitation and assessment service with 56 beds
  • dedicated geriatric evaluation and management unit with 10 inpatient beds
  • palliative care unit with 10 beds
  • a free, walk-in urgent care centre that is open 24/7
  • dental clinic with 4 chairs
  • radiology, pathology and pharmacy
  • extensive community health services.

New community health centres in Brookvale, Mona Vale and Seaforth

Prevention and early intervention can transform the health of a local community.

The NSW Government has invested $100 million in community health facilities in Brookvale, Mona Vale and Seaforth.

Australia's first hospice for adolescents and young adults

Plans are progressing for Australia's first hospice for adolescents and young adults to be built on the Manly Hospital site.

The unique service will provide offering respite care, symptom management or end of life care to young adults with life-limiting illnesses.

The NSW Government will provide $2 million in funding each year to the service.

What are customers saying?

The Northern Beaches community is already benefiting from being able to access high quality healthcare that is close to home.

Patients and their family are invited to submit feedback to the:

  • nurse, doctor or health professional at the hospital or service
  • hospital or services' Patient Representative Officer
  • Chief Executive of the Northern Sydney Local Health District
  • Health Care Complaints Commission

The care, comfort and satisfaction of you and your family is important. Feedback helps the NSW Government and medical professionals to improve services.
