NSW Fines Review

In June 2018, the NSW Government announced the first review and reform of parking and other fines in decades.

Since this time the NSW Government has announced a suite of reforms designed to introduce a fairer and more common-sense approach to parking fines in NSW. Two of the key changes are parking fines reductions and a grace period for parking.

About the review

The NSW Government is undertaking a review of parking and other fines, including options for fixing confusing parking signs.

The NSW Government has already announced:

  • a 10-minute grace period for motorists from 31 January 2019 where there has been at least one hour of paid ticketed or coupon parking. To avoid impacts on safety and road congestion, the grace period will not apply to certain areas such as bus lanes, clearways and transit lanes.
  • a reduction of 52 non-safety related parking fines issued by NSW Government authorities from $112 to $80.
  • the option for councils and universities to also reduce 52 non-safety related parking fines from $112 to $80.
