For introductory information see the bait collection and vertebrate pest animal pages provided by Local Land Services NSW.
Become a Feral Fighter
In the Riverina region, landholders can collect baits by joining local pest animal management groups and becoming a Feral Fighter. This allows landholders to work together to bait simultaneously to cover a wide area, which results in a better knockdown. Local Land Services Biosecurity Officers provide up to date information, advice and support to tailor a pest management plan for your property. In addition, the following subsidised incentives are available until 30 June 2026:
- vertebrate pesticide induction training (now available online)
- fox and wild dog meat baits
- grain for free-feeding, 1080 poisoning and/or trapping of feral pigs
- poisoning signs
- fresh cut poisoned carrot (1080 or Pindone) for rabbits.
It's important to note, all land managers have a general biosecurity duty under the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015. This duty requires that anyone who knows or ought to reasonably know about a biosecurity risk has a duty to prevent, eliminate or minimise that risk as far as reasonably practicable.
As a land manager you also have biosecurity obligations to your neighbours.
