Autumn and spring are critical times for land managers to implement baiting programs to reduce wild dog and fox populations, minimising their impact on livestock and vulnerable native wildlife.
Bait collection
Bait collection can be arranged throughout the Western region year round. Baiting timeframes can change to suit pest animal pressures and coordinated control activities.
You can contact your local biosecurity officer to:
- find the closest baiting collection point
- to arrange individual bait pick up
- or to be part of a group baiting program.
All baits must be ordered a minimum of 3 days prior to the collection date.
Get more information on our bait collection and vertebrate pest animal pages.
Fox baiting incentive
To be eligible for this baiting incentive, landholders must:
- be based in the Western Local Land Services region and be a Local Land Services ratepayer
- not have any outstanding rates, fees or payments to Local Land Services
- be part of a coordinated fox baiting group (at least 3 neighbouring holdings baiting at the same time)
- holdings located in areas where wild dogs are present must have previously purchased fox baits since 1 March 2024
- hold AQF3 or Vertebrate Pesticides Induction Training certification.
