Bait collection

Bait collection for wild dogs, foxes, wild rabbits and feral pigs can be arranged throughout the Western region year-round.  

Baiting timeframes can change to suit pest animal pressures and coordinated control activities.

You can contact your local biosecurity officer on 1300 795 299 to:

• find the closest baiting collection point
• to arrange individual bait pick up
• participate in a group baiting program.

All baits must be ordered a minimum of 3 business days prior to the collection date.

Spring baiting program for wild dogs

We are working with pest management groups and stakeholders to coordinate our spring 2026 baiting program for the control of wild dogs.

The program will commence with aerial baiting along pre-determined bait lines in mostly inaccessible country from Wednesday 28 October to Sunday 8 November 2026. 

This will be followed by ground baiting by landholders that are members of pest management groups with the support of their local biosecurity officers.

Fox baiting incentive

Landholders wanting to control foxes in key livestock production periods during spring 2026 and autumn 2027, are encouraged to take advantage of an incentive to participate in coordinated fox baiting control programs.

Through the Western fox baiting project 2026-27, any landholder that purchases 1080 fox baits in spring 2026 and meets the eligibility criteria, can receive the same amount of fox baits in autumn 2027 for no further cost.

During the incentive program, the price for 1080 wing baits is reduced from $0.70 to $0.60 each.

Our biosecurity officers will work with landholders to determine the number of baits based on property size and other factors.

To be eligible for this baiting incentive, landholders must:

• be based in the Western Local Land Services region and be a Local Land Services ratepayer
• not have any outstanding rates, fees or payments to Local Land Services
• be part of a coordinated fox baiting group 
• have holdings located in areas where wild dogs are present 
• must have previously purchased fox baits since 1 March 2025
• hold AQF3 or Vertebrate Pesticides Induction Training certification.
