The Economic Recovery workstream will achieve these outcomes through the Resilient  Centres Program and Economic  Revitalisation Programs.

The Economic Recovery and Aboriginal Engagement Program will help ensure Aboriginal enterprises and land managers are a critical component of economic recovery and residential supply across the region.

Embedding Connecting with Country and ‘Working with Country’ frameworks and principles across all engagement, programs and projects underpins everything we do.

Resilient Centres Program

The Resilient Centres Program will support the adaptation of key centres in the region for long-term resilience.  The Program is working in partnership with local government, key stakeholders and the community to identify a post-flood vision for key centres across the region and make that vision a reality. The Program will consider measures to support housing, infrastructure, economic and social development as well as the environmental needs, Aboriginal and cultural heritage of each centre.

Economic Revitalisation Programs

The NRRC is working with councils and the private sector to deliver supporting infrastructure for the Northern Rivers region to encourage and increase investment into the future.

These programs are guided by a number of strategies and programs to ensure reconstruction takes place hand in hand with local business development and provides employment and training opportunities for the Northern Rivers community.

These Economic Revitalisation Programs are guided include:

  • Northern Rivers Growth Strategy
  • Northern Rivers Workforce Strategy
  • Business capacity building and reconstruction supports
  • Supply Chain Support and Enabling Program
  • Employment Lands Strategy (in partnership with Northern Rivers Joint Organisation).

Economic Recovery and Aboriginal Engagement Program

The NRRC is working directly with the Aboriginal Housing Working Group to coordinate the repairs and reconstruction within Aboriginal communities. The Economic Recovery and Aboriginal Engagement Program will help ensure Aboriginal enterprises and land managers are a critical component of economic recovery and residential supply across the region. The program will work to ensure, where possible, reconstruction and rebuilding efforts are converted into opportunities for local Aboriginal businesses and training for local communities.

The Program will work closely with the Infrastructure Coordination Office, and Resilient Homes and Resilient Land Programs.
