Farmers buying zinc phosphide

Primary producers impacted by the 2021 mouse plague may be eligible to claim a rebate for the purchase of zinc phosphide.

Farmers experiencing financial hardship due to the mouse plague may be eligible for assistance with purchasing costs of zinc phosphide to provide financial and cash flow relief.

If you are a primary producer in an eligible Local Government Area, you may be eligible to claim

  • a rebate of 50 per cent on zinc phosphide purchases, up to $10,000.
  • multiple claims can now be made (up to $10,000).

The rebate covers multiple purchases of zinc phosphide bait between 1 January 2021 to 31 January 2022.

Applications can be made through the NSW Rural Assistance Authority (RAA) and are open until 31 January 2022. All invoices must be submitted to the RAA by 14 March 2022.

For more information about the rebates and eligibility visit the NSW Rural Assistance Authority.

Securing zinc phosphide for farmers

NSW Government is working with manufacturers to help shore up supplies of zinc phosphide, including

  • providing $5 million to assist with the costs of transporting zinc phosphide to Australia
  • ensuring zinc phosphide baits produced as part of this arrangement are earmarked for sale to NSW producers first
  • working to connect manufacturers with Commonwealth support such as the International Freight Assistance Mechanism.
