About our clinics
Inflatable lifejackets require extra care and attention to ensure they will inflate in an emergency.
Most inflatable lifejackets can be self-serviced, depending on the manufacturer's guidelines.
Our boating educators run free clinic sessions to promote awareness of inflatable lifejacket servicing requirements, including step-by-step instructions on how to self-service your lifejacket as well as general safety advice and information.
The clinics are run as part of the NSW Government's 'Wear a Lifejacket' campaign, and in line with the Maritime Safety Plan.
Importance of servicing your lifejacket
Lifejackets are vital for your safety when you're out boating.
In NSW you must service your inflatable lifejacket every year - or in line with the manufacturer's advice.
Most manufacturers specify routine checks and maintenance schedules for keeping your lifejacket in good condition.
Penalties may apply if you fail to service your lifejacket as required.
Online servicing demonstration
Boating Education Officers offer online demonstrations through various platforms including livestreams, podcasts and social media on the self-servicing process for inflatable lifejackets. Our officers also interact with viewers answering any questions on general lifejacket wear and servicing requirements.
Watch one of our previously held clinic livestreams below.
Details of upcoming online clinic sessions will be published on this page as well as through NSW Maritime social media.
In person clinic sessions
Boating Education Officers run free inflatable lifejacket self-service clinic sessions at locations including boat ramps, other facilities and at various events such as boat shows around New South Wales.
The sessions include demonstrations on how to service an inflatable lifejacket including what to look for to ensure it remains effective and hands on guidance and steps to check and service your own lifejackets. Sessions will take place at local boating facilities including boat ramps and clubs. The opportunity to ask questions and obtain additional Maritime resources such as the Boating Handbook, safety brochures and labels is also available at these sessions.
Anyone can attend, and participants who engage in the self-servicing sessions are eligible to receive a discount voucher that can be used towards the purchase of an inflatable lifejacket or self servicing parts at a retail partner listed below (Certain replacement lifejacket parts may be available in some instances) .
Details of upcoming clinic sessions will be published and regularly updated on this page, and advertised on the NSW Maritime Facebook page, as well as local area newspapers and radio.
