About this location
As part of upgrades to the Back Creek foreshore, feedback was given by the Aboriginal community that they would love to see more cultural representation in the area, given the significance of this space to their mob.
In partnership with South West Rocks Figtree Descendants Aboriginal Corporation, a two-stage cultural art project was developed.
The first stage was the installation of cultural art bollard wraps, featuring design done by local Dunghutti woman Nancy Pattison. Represented are three sea animals significant to the space.
Stage two is coming soon which will be the installation of a functional artistic mosaic and engraved natural rumbled timber bench seat, overlooking the water.
This piece is being crafted in close collaboration between artist Francessca O’Donnell from The Out There Collective, and Nancy, who will be developing the design to be engraved in the natural rumbled edge timber seat top.
