Explore Breaker Morant Drive – A Stroll Through History Take a leisurely walk or short drive along Breaker Morant Drive, a 500-metre circuit encircling the oval at Kitchener Park, just off Conadilly Street in Gunnedah. This historic route pays tribute to Harry Harbord "Breaker" Morant, born in Bideford, England in 1865, who migrated to Australia at 19. Known for his skill as a drover and horse breaker, Morant earned the nickname "The Breaker" for his ability to tame wild horses—and, as legend suggests, hearts as well! During the 1890s, Morant worked at Pullaming Station near Gunnedah. Local stories recall him riding horses over jumps at Kitchener Park, including the famous "The Rattler", a horse he broke in that went on to hold the Australian high jump record for several years. In 2002, a commemorative plaque was unveiled in Kitchener Park to honour Gunnedah's connection to the Boer War and mark the centenary of Morant and Handcock's execution.
