Gogeldrie Weir is an integral part of Leeton and the region's irrigation story. It was completed in 1959 to divert water from the Murrumbidgee River to the Coleambally Irrigation Area via the Coleambally Canal, and to part of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Areas are associated irrigation districts via the Stuart Canal. There are six gates each measuring 6.1 metres (20ft) high and 12.2 metres (40ft) wide. The gates are opened individually by electric motors placed centrally between piers. The grounds of Gogeldrie Weir are an ideal picnic/camping area for families with fantastic barbecue facilities, toilets, showers and soon to have a fully stocked kiosk. Fishing equipment available for hire and a good mix of bait for sale. Gogeldrie Weir campground has recently undergone significant improvements with remediation works undertaken in the transpiration bed to ensure that the site's effluent system is being effectively managed. These upgrades futureproof the site, allowing for potential enhancements such as the installation of cabins in the future. Gogeldrie Weir is fast becoming a haven for friends and families to gather and enjoy a relaxed break amongst the beautiful surrounds of the Murrumbidgee River.
