About this location
Mathoura’s Timber Heritage Walk, opened to the public in May 2019, is a celebration of the region’s rich and colourful timber heritage. Ten information panels detailing the story of Mathoura’s red gum timber industry have been mounted on red gum posts and spread throughout the grounds of the Timbercutter restaurant and Picnic Point precinct.
The free heritage walk guides visitors through the fascinating story of the river red gum, the birth of the red gum forests, and the booming timber industry that followed.
Visitors are invited to take a gentle wander back through history to discover the age-old magic of the river red gum story and to meet some of the earliest pioneers who bring this extraordinary tale to life.
Bathe in the forest air and the visceral sounds of nature, savour the journey, and keep an eye out for the intriguing stories.
