An hour spent with eagles in the silence atop Mount Oxley looking across a 100-kilometre expanse rekindles the experience of explorers Sturt and Hume in 1829. Mount Oxley, rising from the perfectly flat landscape, has without question the best views of the area. A must-see panorama stretches as far as the eye can see. Mount Oxley is unique due to being able to drive to the summit. Add to this the geography, flora and fauna, makes it very interesting for visitors and locals. Craters on the mountain numbering 13 were described by Sir Charles Sturt in his diaries ,when he visited in the summer of 1828-29. Mount Oxley does require a day permit to visit, as it is located on private property. This can be purchased from the Back O' Bourke Information and Exhibition Centre or by contacting the owners. It is encouraged to purchase the permit on the day that you would like to go up as the code that is provided changes regularly. The sunsets at Mount Oxley are stunning with vibrant pinks blues yellow and purples painting the sky. Mount Oxley showcases the abundance of wildlife in the region including wedge-tail eagles and Macropus Robustis (Euro-type of Wallaby) This is a photographer, bushwalker and bird-watcher dream.
