Salts Bay is a tranquil pocket of Lake Macquarie, located on the southern shore of the Swansea Channel, between Blacksmiths and Caves Beach. Sheltered and scenic, the bay is surrounded by wetlands, mangroves and littoral rainforest, offering calm waters and peaceful lake views away from busier foreshore areas. The bay is rich in birdlife, with Black Neds Walking Trail and foreshore areas ideal for relaxed strolls, quiet picnics or simply taking in the surroundings. The protected bays make it a perfect opportunity for swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and fishing. Salts Bay has a quiet historical charm as well. The area was once the site of small‑scale salt works in the mid‑1800s, a reminder of Lake Macquarie's long connection to industry and maritime life, before nature reclaimed the shoreline and shaped the peaceful landscape seen today.
