The Wetlands form a vital part of Bland Shire Council's innovative town waterway system, designed to manage stormwater by collecting runoff into a shared catchment facility. This system helps address drainage challenges, especially during periods of heavy rainfall. Featuring a large dam and a series of smaller ponds with varying depths, the Wetlands hold approximately 60 megalitres of water and serve as the primary water source for parks, gardens, and recreational areas across Wyalong and West Wyalong. One of the ponds includes a central land island, offering a safe, fox-free breeding ground for birds. Developed on a pre-existing bird and wildlife sanctuary, the Wetlands have been carefully revegetated with native plants and now span 6.547 hectares, including 3.859 hectares of water. The area also supports aquatic life such as Golden Perch, enhancing its ecological diversity and appeal to nature enthusiasts.
