Overview of this event
Daniel Pata's latest solo exhibition "High Country" is dominated by works depicting Katoomba and the Jamison Valley, which he understands to be one of the largest canyons in the world. The exhibition showcases spectacular precipitous cliffs, clouded valleys, and vast distances—an extraordinary opportunity to explore the equally vast range of colours, tones, and rich textures on display, as well as the fascinating interplay of space. For Daniel, these qualities continue to reveal themselves more deeply with each return visit.
In this exhibition, Pata continues to explore material produced en plein air from the Snowy Mountains and his ongoing work in the Blue Mountains, a place that he considers one of the great places on earth, where the pictorial impact remains as exhilarating as ever.
For Daniel Pata, the high country holds a special spiritual presence. Reflecting on his first show and Lloyd Reese's encouraging comment that he should continue working in the "high country", he now sees that advice as having truly come to pass.
Daniel Pata is represented in major Public Collections in Australia and internationally, including the Gosford Regional Gallery Collection, NSW; Sturt University, NSW; National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, ACT; St Peter's College, Oxford University, UK, and numerous Corporate and Private collections in Australia, Europe, USA.
