Overview of this event
A First Nations exhibition focusing on the deep connections between culture, Country and water.
Echoes of Light: Our Connection Through Waterways is an exhibition by friends and collaborators Emma Hicks and Merindah Funnell, presenting a series of mixed media works that highlight interwoven stories shaped by water and time immemorial and are deeply connected to Country.
The exhibition features new, site-specific works that bring together the cultural practices and knowledge connected to Cammeraygal Country. The artworks share relationships to Country and invite viewers to reflect on their own connections and experiences to place.
As part of the exhibition, Emma and Merindah consulted with Barada Bana, Yuin, and Cammeraygal Elder Auntie Jeanie Moran.
Emma and Merindah are also bringing together First Nations Aunties in Sydney's north, hosting a one-day eco-dyeing and weaving workshop led by Noongar artist Jodie Dowd as part of a community-led collaborative artwork.
