Overview of this event
In commemoration of 125 years of Australia's Federation, Maitland City Council has launched a dedicated exhibition that brings Maitland's unique Federation story to life.
This curated experience offers a local lens on a defining moment in Australia's history, showcasing how national change was reflected and shaped within the community.
Visitors are invited to explore a range of historical moments from both pre and post Federation, discovering the people and events during this transformative period. The exhibition features a selection of significant objects, photographs and documents, alongside video content that helps connect past experiences with the present day.
Learn about key figures who influenced Maitland's social, political and cultural landscape, and gain a deeper understanding of the city's role in the broader Federation narrative.
Whether you're a history enthusiast, a local resident, or simply curious about the stories that shaped the region, the exhibition offers a rich and insightful journey through Maitland's Federation heritage.
Federation 125 is presented by Maitland City Council, with contributions from Maitland and District Historical Society, Museum of Clothing and Textiles, Maitland Coin Club, Maitland Regional Museum, Parliamentary Education Office, Museum of Australian Democracy and local historians.
