Transformation and Innovation — Exploring the Century-Long Development of Chinese Watercolour Painting. The lecture will trace the development of Chinese watercolour painting over the past century. Since the late 19th century, watercolour painting has been introduced to China through Western art education. By the 21st century, Chinese watercolour art has embraced new trends such as cross-media experimentation, material innovation, and the integration of digital technologies. In the ongoing interplay between tradition and modernity, and between local and global perspectives, Chinese watercolour has undergone continuous transformation, achieving constant renewal and breakthroughs. Rooted in the rich soil of Chinese cultural heritage, it also actively absorbs and integrates international artistic languages, preserving an Eastern aesthetic while expressing a diverse and open contemporary sensibility. This lecture will guide the audience through the historical evolution and contemporary expressions of Chinese watercolour art. It also aims to serve as a platform for artistic dialogue and exchange between China and Australia, fostering encounters and resonance between Eastern and Western cultures through the medium of watercolour. The Lecturer-Liu Baoxun Mr Li Baoxuan, born in 1983 in Fuxin, Liaoning Provinceof China, currently holds the position of Associate Professor and Master's Supervisor at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, where he serves as Deputy Director of the Department of Watercolour Painting with the School of Painting Arts.
