The Measure of Things - A Solo Art Exhibition by Dee Hopkins

The Measure of Things is a solo exhibition by contemporary abstract and expressionist artist Dee Hopkins, presented at The Queanbeyan Hive, Queanbeyan. Inspired by personal experience and the people, places, and ideas that resonate with the artist, the exhibition brings together a series of works that explore how meaning is shaped by individual perspective. Working with colour, form, texture, and layered mixed media, Hopkins presents expressive interpretations of the natural world and everyday life. Her practice invites quiet reflection and personal connection, encouraging viewers to find meaning in the familiar. A featured series, Behind Every Great Man, highlights overlooked narratives of women whose significant contributions have historically been overshadowed, drawing attention to themes of recognition, feminism, and storytelling. Visitors are warmly invited to attend the official opening of The Measure of Things at 6pm on Friday 13 February. The evening will include a free drink on arrival, light refreshments, and a fundraising Buzz Bar operating behind the gallery from 6–9pm. Dee Hopkins is a contemporary abstract and expressionist visual artist and a recent graduate of a Diploma of Visual Arts. Her practice is informed by a long career in national health education and advocacy, working with marginalised and vulnerable communities across Australia. Dee's work explores storytelling through colour, form, and texture, with recurring themes of feminism, ageing, social justice, and personal experience.
