Overview of this event
The Nicholas Harding Estate, in partnership with Tweed Regional Gallery, Glasshouse Port Macquarie and Manly Art Gallery & Museum, is proud to present Beach Life, a major touring exhibition for 2026–2027. Drawn from the Estate's private collection, this selection of works offers a glimpse into Nicholas Harding's profound connection to the coastal landscapes of New South Wales.
Featuring lush oil paintings, dynamic ink on paper, and luminous watercolours, the exhibition celebrates Harding's masterful ability to capture the fleeting moments of life by the New South Wales coast. His thickly layered impasto technique gives tangible form to the shimmering heat, salty air and deep shadows of the Australian shoreline. From the quiet solitude of a windswept beach to the vibrant energy of a crowded shore, Harding's works are more than just landscapes; they are deeply felt expressions of place and memory.
This exhibition reveals an artist at the height of his abilities, observing and interpreting a culture intrinsically linked to the coast. Harding's work invites us to experience the familiar Australian beach with fresh eyes, finding beauty and complexity in its everyday rhythms. This is an unmissable opportunity to engage with the enduring legacy of one of Australia's most beloved painters.
