Once located on Goulburn's main street, Riversdale started life as a coaching inn. The stables, thought to be Goulburn's oldest building, was once a brewery. The property was then run as a boarding school and later opening again as an inn. From 1875 the Georgian Homestead was home to surveyor Edward Twynam and his wife Emily Rose Twynam, who had a keen interest in art. In 1893 Emily won a prize for her embroidery at the Chicago International Exhibition. Her artwork is displayed at the property. The heritage garden still retains a number of fruit trees, the produce of which is sold on site.
