Overview of this event
Merrigong Theatre Company presents a Karul Projects and BlackDance production:
Silence
A conversation that will never be silenced.
Choreographed and written by Thomas E.S. Kelly.
Silence is a thrilling new work from acclaimed First Nations contemporary dance company, Karul Projects, based on Minjungbal Country (Northern NSW / South East Qld). Vivid movement and sound explore the space in between, the conversations not being heard, and the responses that are muted.
There’s silence between the stars as the Emu travels across the night sky. There’s silence in the dancer’s energy when they hit the cut, the rupture between rhythms and movement where the spirit world can enter. It’s also the deafening silence under white noise. The same questions echoed through generations.
Through powerful choreography from company co-founder Thomas E.S. Kelly, and dynamic live percussion from Jhindu-Pedro Lawrie, Silence breaks the silence, pulling unresolved conversations from under the rug and slamming them back on the table.
