Overview of this event
Presented as part of International Mother Language Day, 'Ten Years To Home' tells the true story of Rushikesh (Rushi) and Vasant Sheth, who migrated from Mumbai, India to Melbourne, Australia in 1959.
Initially planned as a four-year stay due to Rushi's work transfer, the stay was extended multiple times, ultimately transforming into a new life for their family. The narrative unfolds through the lens of their daughter Sonal, who was born during their time in Australia, exploring the intertwined lives of three generations of the Sheth family against the backdrop of significant social and cultural shifts.
Central to the narrative are the experiences and perspectives of three generations of Sheth women: Sonal, Radhika, and Evangeline. This is a semi-autobiographical play written by Sonal Moore looking back on her growing up during the 1970s in a predominantly "White Australia" and its gradual dismantling.
