Overview of this event
To celebrate the NSW Seniors Festival, the Harbour Trust and the Naval Historical Society of Australia are offering a bundled tour, tea and cruise experience.
Led by a knowledgeable guide, ticketholders will embark on an accessible tour of Cockatoo Island's former dockyard. Along the way, they will hear about a budgie turned submariner named Trevor, a daring payroll robbery and major dockyard projects, including the repairs carried out on the USS New Orleans!
Following the tour, attendees will board the MV Bennelong – a charming, all-timber heritage vessel – for a scenic cruise around Cockatoo, Spectacle and Snapper Islands. During this relaxed, hour-long trip, the crew will serve an abundant morning tea, including pastries, cakes, hot finger foods and coffee. Plus, volunteer speakers from the Naval Historical Society will share the defence histories of Snapper and Spectacle Islands.
This event is for people aged 60 years and over, First Nations peoples aged 50 years and over and people with a life-long disability. Note: The MV Bennelong cannot accommodate wheelchairs and mobility aids due to its heritage nature and layout. Further, the vessel features steps and narrow passageways that may pose accessibility challenges.
