NSW school term information
In NSW, schools in the Western Division usually go back a week later than schools in the Eastern Division because of the area's location and past tradition. The main reason for this division is the hotter weather in the Western region at that time of year. Starting school later helps teachers and students avoid the worst of the heat.

School development days support a world-class education system by allowing staff to focus on professional development and planning, with no classes held for students. Dates are set by the Department, but may vary by school, so it's best to check locally.
School speed zones operate on all notified school days, including school development days. The 40km/h speed limit in school zones is designed to keep children safe by reducing crash risks and severity. Signs, road markings, and flashing lights help make school zones more visible to drivers. When school zones are active, always follow the speed limit, as increased fines and demerit points apply for offences like speeding and illegal mobile phone use, especially during double demerit periods.
