Agency template
The Agency template is the main landing page for your agency. It should be used like a website homepage and not for any other child pages.
Using the agency template
Do
- Use as the primary page for your agency.
- Create your agency page first and then create all the child pages that will be linked to your agency page, such as Contact us.
- The agency page is the highest level page in the IA, below the nsw.gov.au top level topic of ‘Departments and agencies’.
- Create this page as part of a OneCX website migration.
- Edit, maintain and improve your agency page after a site migration. There are many functions that can be turned on/off, such as news feeds, that can be added by agency editors after a migration when this content is available.
Don’t
- Try to use hacks or workarounds to alter the structure or display of the template. If there are fields or functions that you find are missing from the template, raise a Help Hub request to improve the template. The template is designed to be used by all agencies to create a consistent look and feel for high level agency pages.
- Use for any general content pages. This template is reserved exclusively for top level agency pages.
How to create an agency page
To create an agency page, from the megamenu select Content > Add content > Agency.
Set up tabs
You will need to work through the following tabs – Content, Page, Media, Tags, Connections – to finish creating your page. Some fields are mandatory.
Title (mandatory)
- Use sentence case unless brand names or proper names are in use. No special characters. Try to aim for a maximum of 50 characters.
- The page title forms the end of the URL and appears in the breadcrumb and side navigation.
- The title displays as the H1 heading for the page and is the default meta title for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).
Importance of page title (meta title) for SEO
The page title (also known as the meta title) is an important page elements for SEO.
- The page title is the text that appears in the browser tab and is also used as the main link text in search engine results pages (SERPs).
- It is the first thing the audience see when they come across your web page in search results.
- It is important to make sure that the page title accurately describes the content of the page and includes relevant keywords to help search engines understand what the page is about.
Summary (mandatory)
- The page summary will appear under the page title on the web page.
- Try to keep it less than 170 characters in length.
- The summary is also the default meta description for SEO.
Importance of the page summary (meta description) for SEO
- The meta description is a brief summary of the content on the web page that appears below the page title in search results.
- It can influence click-through rates (CTR) from search results to your web page.
- A well-crafted meta description can entice users to click through to your page by providing a concise summary of the content, include relevant keywords, and highlighting the benefits of visiting your page.
URL slug (optional)
You can use the URL slug field to modify the end part of your URL. Use the URL slug to create a shorter, SEO-friendly URL and prevent duplication of words.
The URL slug will override the URL that is automatically generated from the page title.
The URL slug:
- must be lowercase
- must separate words with a - (hyphen)
- should include the page's primary keyword
- should not exceed 32 characters.
Layout
You can select which type of layout you’d prefer from:
- Key projects
- News focus
- About us focus.
Each of the layouts have the same input fields, however they will be ordered differently – depending on the layout chosen. The layout focus will prioritise that content to be at the top of the page.
Short title (optional)
Use the short title field if you want to shorten your page title for side navigation and breadcrumbs to prevent text wrapping for long page titles. Use sentence case. If no URL slug is used, the short title will also modify the URL.
Search box
The search box displays by default. It allows users to search all content that has been tagged with your agency. You can choose to turn it off or customise the heading above the search bar.
Navigation links
Add 3 to 9 page links to key high level pages that will help users navigate through your agency’s content.
In-page notices
You can apply an existing notice to your page. Use the search bar to enter the name of your notice and look up an existing notice. If you need to create a new in-page notice, see the guide to In-page notices.
About us
To add an About us section, click on the button Add Feature. Add a Heading and short overview of your agency. You can include a link to a full ‘About us’ page. You can also add an image, this will display above the text on a mobile device or to the right of the text on a desktop device.
Profiles
You can add profiles of leaders from your agency. You should add a heading above the profiles. The profiles component shows 3 profiles per row.
Latest news
You can turn the news feature on or off. To have news items show on your agency page the news item must be tagged with your agency. Learn how to create a news article.
You should add a Latest news more link where users can click and read more news articles form your agency. Use the search bar to start typing the name of the news page you want to link to and select it from the results. You can customise the Link text to make it clear where the user is going, for example, ‘See all news from NSW Health’.
Promoted content
If you choose to add promoted content by clicking on the Add feature button it will display content in a light grey section.
Additional promoted content
You can add cards if you have more content you need to promote by clicking the Add cards button. You will need to add at least 4 cards. Learn more about using cards.
Key projects
If you want to profile key projects click the Add block item button.
Grants
The grants feature is an on/off function. You must have already created at least 3 grants, tagged with your agency, for this component to function. Find out more about using the grants template.
Flexible content
You can add cards, with a heading, in this section if you have content that doesn’t fit within any other category.
Events
The events feature is an on/off function. You must have already created at least 3 events, tagged with your agency, for this component to function. Find out more about how to create events.
Recent publications
The publications feature is an on/off function that populates with your agency’s resources. You must have already created at least 3 resources, tagged with your agency, for this component to function. Find out more about how to create resource pages. If you turn the publications feature on you should complete the Resource more link section with a link and link title so users can find all of the publications for your agency.
Agency list
If you have multiple agencies within your department that you want to link to, use this section and click the Add links button to link to them.
Contact us (will be deleted)
This is a legacy section and shouldn’t be used for new agency pages. If you have previously created an agency page and used this section you should more your content out of it and into the new Contact us section below.
Social media
The social media feed can only be used if your agency has an account at Curator.io. If your agency does then you can enter the Curator.io feed ID and Container ID.
Contact us
You should include a contact section for users to be able to contact your agency.
You can add information in the heading and summary fields and link to a contact us page.
Alternatively, you can create reusable micro-content. To add micro-content, use the look up fields of the Contact section to search and select your micro-content. For example, NESA have added 2 micro-content items, ‘Get in contact with NESA’ and ‘Stay connected’ which appear next to one another in the contact section.
In the Banner tab click Add media to add an image to agency page’s hero banner with the agency summary text. To learn more about selecting and uploading images see the guides to images. If you add a Banner image you can can also add a Banner logo.
You’ll need to complete the 3 mandatory tags.
Agency (mandatory)
- Start to type the name of the relevant Cluster or Agency in the Agency field and select from the drop down list.
- You can choose more than one agency however, the first Agency listed will be the main agency for the content and will receive the Google Analytics data for the page.
Audience (mandatory)
- You must select 1 or more audience types, that your content is relevant for.
Topic (mandatory)
- You must select at least 1 of the 20 main Topic tags, that is relevant to your content.
- The list of main topics can be found on the homepage.
Adding tags
You can add other optional tags that are relevant to your content for Industry, Campaign or Location.
Discuss with your team what tagging may be required if you are planning on creating lists with your pages.
Tags are only used to group related content together and do not play a part in SEO.
Parent (mandatory)
- Start to type the title for the nominated Parent page for your new web page.
- The Parent you select will determine the URL structure and breadcrumb navigation at the top of the page.
1. Go to the Right hand side page menu > Governance > Editorial group.
2. Select the Editorial group/s that will be responsible for keeping this new web page updated. You can choose more than one group.
Once you have completed all the mandatory fields, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.
You can now edit your new agency page by selecting Pre-Published Draft from the page toolbar and selecting Edit content.
