Home Schooling Consultative Group

The Home Schooling Consultative Group was established by the former Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards following the final report of the Legislative Council Inquiry into home schooling in NSW.

The final report relating to the Inquiry was tabled in Parliament on 5 December 2014. The NSW Government’s response was published on 13 July 2015.

The Government supported a number of recommendations made in the report including:

That the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (the BOSTES)  establish a consultative group to:

  • oversee consultation between the BOSTES and the home schooling population;
  • provide input to and review the design and implementation of home schooling policies and procedures; and
  • provide ongoing advice and assistance to the BOSTES.

That the consultative group be chaired by the Executive Director of Regulation and Governance from the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards Board. Membership of the consultative group to include at least four home schooling representatives and at least four others nominated by the BOSTES for their knowledge and expertise in primary and secondary education and the education of children with disabilities.

Terms of Reference

The terms of reference for the Home Schooling Consultative Group (HSCG) are consistent with the recommendation of the Inquiry, that is, the HSCG is to:

  • oversee consultation between the BOSTES and the home schooling population;
  • provide input to and review the design and implementation of home schooling policies and procedures; and
  • provide ongoing advice and assistance to the BOSTES.
