Coal mine subsidence compensation
Underground coal mining can cause ground movement, known as mine subsidence. This can cause damage to buildings and other structures ranging from jammed doors and cracks in walls, to structural damage.
The NSW Government is seeking feedback on the draft compensation bill.
We recently reviewed the Coal Mine Subsidence Compensation Act 2017, asking for feedback by public consultation.
The draft Coal Mine Subsidence Compensation Amendment Bill 2024 takes on the recommendations from the review.
We want your views on changes about:
- extending relocation compensation to tenants
- more support from Subsidence Advisory NSW
- penalties to be in line with inflation.
Your feedback will help us understand how the proposed changes support a fair, efficient and sustainable compensation framework.
