Critical Minerals and High-Tech Metals Strategy

NSW has an abundance of the minerals and metals that will be essential to the future industries we want to see in our state, including advanced manufacturing, battery manufacturing, defence, aerospace, ag-tech and renewables.

Further fuelled by a growing world consumer class and new technologies, increased demand for many of these minerals is already outstripping supply expansions.

The NSW Government is committed to supporting the growth of the sector across the critical minerals supply chain, through investments in exploration, mining, processing, downstream industries and recycling. There is a window of opportunity to secure global investment in supply chains in the long term and secure new, additional long-term opportunities for the NSW mining industry.

The Critical Minerals and High-Tech Metals Strategy outlines the NSW Government’s vision to build on our existing potential and position NSW as a major global supplier and processor of critical minerals and high-tech metals well into the future. Under the Strategy the NSW Government will:

  1. Establish Australia’s first Critical Minerals Hub in the Central West
  2. Promote exploration for critical minerals resources
  3. Activate the industry through proactive development of supply chains
  4. Attract investment for critical minerals resources, downstream processing and recycling

Critical minerals investment represents a vibrant, new frontier for regional communities and economies. The Critical Minerals and High-Tech Metals Strategy delivers a clear vision to provide a key source of economic growth, help diversify the NSW royalty base and provide the materials necessary for a low carbon future.
