Walking Country

"Aboriginal peoples have always walked Country. Walking Country is a means of knowing and caring for Country. Like a map across the landscape, Aboriginal culture reveals not only the individual places but the routes between them, like an interconnected narrative. Walking Country connects to a way of knowing the deeper histories of the public spaces near us." - Dr Danièle Hromek is a Budawang woman of the Yuin nation.

Cities Revitalisation and Place

Creating places where people feel welcomed, connected and love to be means addressing well-being, walkability, amenity and activation in our streets and civic places. Public spaces are the foundation for public life and the heart of great places.

The NSW Government is putting a focus on getting people out walking. We want to ensure everyone can access walkable, attractive, and vibrant public spaces through collaboration with local councils, supporting pilot and demonstration projects, and developing tools and guides to build capacity across government and industry.
