Accreditation of Professional Development Courses Policy
9. Roles and responsibilities
9.1 Role of providers
Providers of NESA Accredited PD are responsible for:
- uploading NESA Accredited PD courses to NESA’s database at least seven days before the course start-date
- uploading participation data to NESA’s database within 30 days of the course end-date
- adhering to NESA’s guidelines for the promotion of NESA Accredited PD, including not advertising a course until accreditation is confirmed by NESA10
- complying with the requirements set out in Section 4 of the Policy and providing evidence of compliance to NESA, if requested
- monitoring and evaluating processes to meet the requirements, criteria and principles set out in Section 4 of the Policy
- applying to amend a course where any substantial change to original approval occurs
- notifying NESA if the delivery mode of an accredited course/s changes (e.g. to online delivery)
- where a partnership exists, supplying NESA with written confirmation of the provider responsibilities in relation to the accreditation criteria before the delivery of course/s
- confirming that the provider owns the intellectual property or has the authority to use the intellectual property for the course/s
- delivering each accredited course at least once a year
- notifying NESA if there is significant change to the legal entity or status as a provider or to the nominated principal responsible officers
- completing and signing a statement regarding the conditions of renewal and submitting this to NESA at the end of each accreditation period
- allowing NESA officers to attend/participate in a course/s during a period of accreditation for auditing purposes
- providing information, records and data to NESA if requested, in the event of an audit.
9.1.1 Additional responsibilities for Authorised Providers
In addition to the responsibilities under Section 9.1, Authorised Providers listed in Section 4.1.1 must:
- have internal policies and procedures for assessing PD courses they deliver against the principles for effective PD and in line with the criteria in Section 4.2
- provide NESA with a copy of all relevant policies and procedures
- assess PD courses in line with their internal policies and procedures before publicising a course as NESA Accredited PD and uploading it to the NESA database
- provide NESA with details of NESA Accredited PD courses at least four weeks prior to delivery
- provide NESA with course evaluation data on each NESA Accredited PD course delivered, as requested.
9.2 Role of NESA
NESA oversees the system of assessing and accrediting courses as NESA Accredited PD for accredited teachers in NSW. NESA’s oversight includes conducting regular evaluation of processes for ongoing quality assurance purposes.
NESA:
- accredits PD courses to support teachers’ ongoing development
- monitors and publishes teacher satisfaction ratings for NESA Accredited PD courses
- may cancel the accreditation of a NESA Accredited PD course, in line with Section 7
- audits PD providers’ processes relating to the delivery of NESA Accredited PD, in line with Section 10.1
- assesses applications for renewal of NESA Accredited PD, in line with Section 6
- evaluates NESA’s PD policies and processes (see Section 10.2).
