Project overview
What’s happening
We are proposing to increase housing supply in eastern Sydney with the redevelopment of the social housing site at:
- 47-55 Bunnerong Road
- 2-10 Anderson Street, Kingsford.
This is part of the Building Homes for NSW program.
The proposed multi-storey development will deliver approximately 185 new social and affordable dwellings. It will feature modern, well-designed homes with landscaped gardens and on-site parking.
Homes NSW has sent a proposal to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI). This sets out a request to amend the Randwick Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2012. This amendment would:
- increase the maximum building height from 3 storeys to approximately 8 storeys.
- allow for the redevelopment of the existing units into a more modern building with both private and social homes
Up to 50% of these units will be new social and affordable housing.
The proposal will be assessed under the NSW Government’s new Social and Affordable Housing Program. This program aims to speed up the delivery of social and affordable housing. It does this through a faster, streamlined rezoning process.
Public exhibition completed
Public exhibition of the Explanation of Intended Effect and the Rezoning Proposal began on 16 December 2024 and closed on 4 February 2025.
The community was encouraged to provide feedback. You can find more information on the public exhibition at the Planning Portal.
DPHI is considering feedback received during the exhibition period. This will inform the finalisation of the project. A decision on the proposal is expected by mid-2025.
