Project overview
In February 2023, NSW Government signed an agreement with:
- Tamworth Regional Council
- Tamworth Local Aboriginal Land Council
- NSW Aboriginal Land Council
- Landcom
to explore the possible use of Crown land for the delivery of new housing in Tamworth, including new social housing.
Using Crown land to ease housing stress
Crown Lands oversees the state’s Crown land assets (some 34 million hectares or around 42% of NSW). Homes NSW and Crown Lands work together to identify priority areas with suitable Crown land for residential development.
We’re working together to provide homes for:
- key workers
- social housing residents
- private purchasers
- Aboriginal families.
Next steps
Early investigations are now underway on a range of sites in Tamworth.
Any housing assessment will consider existing Aboriginal interests in respect of land claims and native title.
